Keeping the kids active during the school holidays 29th June 2012
“Mum and dad, I’m bored!”
It’s the whinge that makes parents cringe during the school holidays. And it can be especially hard to get the next generation off the couch and away from the telly when it’s cold outside. But don’t despair; try these family fun swaps to get the gang moving more these school holidays or on the weekend:
• Swap rainy days sitting inside for indoor action like ten pin bowling, swimming, rock climbing or ice skating.
• Swap watching TV for playing in the park; or if you have a garage, back the cars out and create your own indoor play centre.
• Swap the computer for a dance around the living room or challenge on the WiiFit.
• Swap your normal surroundings for the hills. If it’s really cold in your state you might even find some snow and that’s a top way to enjoy the season – make a snowman, throw a snowball or try sliding down the slopes.
You can also use the Swap It activity finder or iPhone app to locate activities to try in your area. It will even show you how to get there! Happy holidays!
